Tree Care In The Aftermath Of A Major Storm

Tree care in the aftermath of a major storm

It is no secret that Florence came through the area recently and wreaked havoc on the area, especially Hampstead. We rarely need a reminder of how fierce and unforgiving Mother Nature can be, but sometimes it gets delivered anyhow.

Now comes the time that we pick up the pieces, as individual homeowners and a community. Believe it or not, some of that starts with the necessary tree care.

What You Should Know About Tree Care in Hampstead

Even for those fortunate local homeowners who managed to weather the storm and come out on the other end unscathed, it still means that you should be thinking about tree maintenance. This is important for both before storms and after; proper care can minimize damage to your trees and your property.

  • Did you know that the majority of property damage from storms is the result of falling tree branches or entire trees? While Florence was unique in that winds and rainwater were of the biggest concern, damage from trees was not far behind on the list. While that certainly does not mean that you should do away with your trees, it does mean you should get proactive about maintenance.
  • If you have tall, mature trees on your property, it is important to have them inspected. Too many homeowners make the mistake of thinking that issues like disease or insects will be visible. The truth of the matter is, in most cases, only an expert can spot problems and even that is with a thorough inspection. Once you, with an untrained eye, can see red flags, it is often too late for the tree. Many a seemingly healthy looking tree has tumbled to the ground and that was the first indication that something was wrong.
  • In some instances, the tree may be salvageable but in others, removal is the only option. While it is a shame to give up on a tree of any size, especially if you have had it for any length of time, it is better to protect your home and property, as well as neighboring homes too.
  • Trimming back the branches away from your home and to avoid hanging over your roof is critical. Even without the concern of storms, branches can grown and get under shingles or crack and fall and crash through the rooftop. Proper tree trimming is essential for the health of the tree and the well-being of your home.
